Rental Inspection Checklist

A room-by-room checklist helps you notice the same kinds of details each time. Adapt it to the property, document what you actually observe, and check local requirements separately.

How to use the checklist

Record the date, address or property reference, and people present. Walk in a consistent direction, note the condition rather than guessing at a cause, and add context when something needs attention. If an area was inaccessible or not tested, say so instead of marking it as satisfactory.

Finish with a useful summary

Summarize urgent observations separately from routine wear, list areas that could not be inspected, and avoid broad conclusions that the notes do not support. Label photos with the room and feature shown, and keep an unchanged copy of the report and its backup.
