For landlords preparing a property for a new tenancy
Move-In Rental Inspection Checklist
Record the property's visible condition before a new tenancy begins. A consistent room-by-room walk-through, clear notes, and contextual photos make the starting record easier to review later.
This checklist is a general record-keeping aid, not a legal inventory, safety certification, or substitute for local requirements. Agree the inspection scope and record what was actually observed or tested.
Before handing over the property
Allow enough time to walk through every included space in a repeatable order. Record the address or property reference and date, and identify anyone present. Describe observable facts rather than guessing at causes. If something is inaccessible or was not tested, mark that clearly instead of implying it was satisfactory.

Make the record useful at move-out
Keep room and item names consistent, take photos that show both context and detail, and preserve the original report and backup. A later comparison can help you review two records, but a difference alone does not establish when or why a condition changed.
